Shaping the future of digital health
At the heart of our professional community are the The Digital Health Networks Advisory Panels and Councils. They have been established to guide the Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO), Chief Information Officer (CIO), and Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO) networks, and the ICS (Integrated Care Systems) and CSO (Clinical Safety Officer) communities.
The governing bodies of these networks and communities bring together dedicated professionals to address specific challenges, drive innovation, and support the shared goal of transforming healthcare through digital solutions. They meet on both an individual and group basis to ensure the Networks’ activities align with the needs of their members, building on the progress previously made and advancing the effective use of digital technologies and data across the NHS.
Advisory Panels
Each of the three foundation Networks – CCIO, CIO, and CNIO – has a directly elected Advisory Panel consisting of 12 members. These panels serve as the leadership teams for their respective communities, representing NHS IT leaders and professionals.
The panel members are elected by their peers and, once elected, choose a chair and vice chairs to represent the community nationally for a two-year term.
Councils
The Councils are short-term, purpose-driven projects. Unlike the elected Advisory Panels that lead the foundation Networks, the Councils are not elected bodies. Instead, they operate with a rolling membership that allows individuals to join or step back at any time. These panels are designed to be inclusive, ensuring diverse participation and representation across the community.
What Do they do?
Both the Advisory Panels and Councils are instrumental in:
- Providing leadership: They set the strategic direction for their Networks, prioritising key issues and championing the digital health agenda.
- Shaping policy: Panel members act as advocates for their communities, representing their peers on national issues and work with NHS England senior leaders to influence policy decisions.
- Promoting best practices: By fostering collaboration and sharing insights, they help members improve the use of digital health solutions across the NHS.
- Driving engagement: Panels ensure the Networks remain dynamic and responsive by driving forward events, discussions, and initiatives that benefit the entire community.
- Supporting the next generation: Panel members are invested in developing the next generation of digital senior leaders through mentoring activities.
